Pushing the limits of electrochemistry! In this paper, we show that electrochemical triggers can induce protein assembly. The mechanism is shown to be via direct reduction of charged amino acids (here, histidine) using a platinum electrode. The phenomena might be further used to learn about early intermediates in protein assembly relevant for neurodegenerative diseases.
